How to combat baldness

How to combat baldness

Confidence has a lot to do with how we look. I remember when I was 26 losing all my hair due to chemotherapy and I was devastated. Recently a client told me about a product that was helping him with his baldness. He seemed so pleased with the product that I decided to share it with you:

How Does Finasteride Work for Hair Loss?

Male pattern baldness (androgenetic alopecia). This seemingly uncontrolled problem has led to the development of a number of drugs and solutions. Finasteride is one of the few solutions that have been proven to work.

Finasteride is a very popular treatment used for male pattern baldness. In the United States, Finasteride is one of two drugs approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for the treatment of male pattern hair loss. So, how does Finasteride work?

How Finasteride Works

Finasteride’s hair-raising success is due to its ability to specifically inhibit 5-alpha-reductase, the enzyme that converts testosterone into a more potent androgen dihydrotestosterone (DHT).

Finasteride works by lowering the level of scalp and serum DHT. By doing this, finasteride can maintain or increase the number of terminal hairs in the anagen phase by inhibiting and sometimes reversing miniaturization of the hair follicle.

1 mg dose of Propecia (one of the names finasteride is sold under) can effectively lower DHT levels in the scalp by as much as 60% when taken daily. It is DHT that shrinks or miniaturizes the hair follicle, which eventually leads to baldness.

This 60% reduction in DHT has proven to stop the progression of hair loss in 86% of men taking the drug during clinical trials. 65% of trial participants had what was considered a substantial increase in hair growth.

Lowering DHT levels is currently the only medically proven method of arresting hair loss. Finasteride is recommended by the American Hair Loss Association as the first line of defense for all men interested in treating their male pattern baldness.

Because Finasteride works by reducing DHT levels, it prevents you from losing hair around the lines of your hair, however, it can prevent hair loss in all areas of the scalp. However, the information available on prescription emphasizes its ability to prevent hair loss on the crown and top of the head.

Development and Clinical Results of Finasteride

Over the years, finasteride uk has undergone lots of research and development. The drug also has other uses. In 1992, finasteride was approved for treating prostate enlargement and other issues that result from the androgen dihydrotestosterone (DHT).

In 1997, finasteride received approval from the FDA and became an effective treatment for hair loss. Doctors guaranteed that Finasteride could stop male pattern baldness for the majority men who take it – and it did.

More than 80% of the men who used finasteride in the clinical trials didn’t experience any more hair loss while on the product, and 66% of them actually regrew hair over an extended time period.

Hair loss doesn’t happen in one day so also finasteride doesn’t work overnight, it takes time and requires consistent usage for best results. Most men who take finasteride do not see any major results until at least a year or more.

Records from clinical trials show that the finasteride can provide up to 30 percent improvement in hair loss after six months of treatment. One thing to note is that the effectiveness of finasteride persists as long as the drug is taken.

In 1999 J Am Acad Dermatol published a report after a clinical trial. The report showed that finasteride was able to slow hair loss and increase hair growth in men. After 1 year of applying 1 mg of finasteride every day, the participants showed a significant increase in their hair count at the frontal scalp.

This progress was improved in the next year. For individuals who take finasteride over a five-year period, there have been reports that it can actually improve your hair growth. Some reports claim that it can lead to about a 10 percent increase in hair than you’d have if you were on no treatment at all.

Side Effects of Taking Finasteride

Finasteride is a potent hair loss treatment, and many people using this medication do not have serious side effects. Because finasteride is also used to treat prostate cancer and enlarged prostate, it could alter the sexual ability of a man.

Some of the most common side effects include, decreased sexual ability/desire, in some men, this medication can decrease the amount of semen released during sex. This is harmless but has continued in some men even after stopping treatment.

I guess every product needs to be weighed up for its costs and benefits but everything is worth a try!
