Periods are a natural process in every woman’s life, and while most women keep calm and carry on during those five days – sometimes, you may wish to delay it by a few days. Women gearing up for a big event such as a sports tournament, a beach vacation, or a wedding may not want their period to put a dampener on things.
Delaying your period
On the bright side, it is quite possible to delay your period if you plan and stay prepared. It is not only convenient to delay your period until you want it, but it is also completely safe. You can also try some natural remedies that help you safely delay your period apart from prescription medicines to delay period.
Is it Safe?
A lot of women worry that period delay may not be safe. But doctors at MedsNow say that it is entirely safe to delay your period if needed. Some natural remedies can help. Many women take Contraceptive pills to miss their period or alter their cycle; hormonal pills or patches also work similarly to change your hormonal functioning and delay your period.
Methods of Delaying your period
There are natural and non-natural ways of delaying your period. Talk to the doctors at MedsNow to know which method is most suited to you and how you can safely delay your period. Let’s take a look at the ways of delaying your period –
Natural Methods
- Apple Cider Vinegar (ACV) – One spoonful of Apple Cider Vinegar in a glass of warm water is an excellent way of delaying your periods naturally. You need to take it regularly for ten to twelve days before your expected date – but there is no credible proof. However, periodically drinking ACV can indeed reduce bloating and cramping during periods.
- Gram Lentils – Limited consumption of fried and powdered lentils is known to delay the period cycle. But there could be side effects such as digestive troubles and flatulence upon excessive consumption.
- Lemon Juice – Lemon juice is rich in Vitamin C and may delay your periods by a few days. It is also helpful in relieving PMS pain, cramping, and lightening the blood flow during periods.
- Gelatin – Even though it is not proven by science, ancient studies claim that consuming gelatin dissolved in warm water can delay your periods – at least by a few hours.
- Fuller’s Earth – Once again, this is not a treatment backed by research, but some old hacks suggest that drinking 25 to 30 grams of Fuller’s Earth or Multani Mitti with a cup of warm water can delay periods. It is recommended that you have it regularly for a week before your expected date of menstruation.
- Mustard Seeds or Chia Seeds – Drinking a spoonful of mustard seeds or chia seeds in a glass of water or milk for a week before the expected date can also delay your periods.
- Exercise – Engaging in heavy exercises or other physical exertion a few days before your period can also delay your period. It could be because of the low energy availability in the body.
Non-Natural Methods
- Norethisterone – Norethisterone is a prescription medicine that delays the start of your period. Usually, doctors prescribe three tablets of Norethisterone per day starting two or three days before your period’s expected date and continuing it until you wish to delay your period. Once you stop taking the medication, your period will come in a few days. It should be noted, however, that Norethisterone is not a contraceptive pill. Consult our doctors at MedsNow to know if this is the correct medicine for you.
- Contraceptive pills – Women who use the combination birth control pill that comprises progesterone and estrogen hormones can delay their period by skipping the placebo pills in the pack and starting a new pack right away.
If you wish to delay your periods for any reason, talk to your doctor about the best remedy for you.
