Good reasons to try TikTok

In the boredom during lockdown. I decided to try TikTok. I always considered TikTok to be for younger people and dismissed it on many levels. Then one night when I was alone at home, I decided to see what it’s all about and I was pleasantly surprised.

On TikTok, hashtags actually exist as a real, functional organizing principle: not for news, or even really anything trending anywhere else than TikTok, but for various “challenges,” or jokes, or repeating formats, or other discernible blobs of activity.

1.Try TikTok for a good laugh

I have made three videos and have never laughed so much. You can distort your face, use face filters that add stubble and a wide chin, a man’s face and many many more. It’s also possible to change your voice, add music…there are so many ways to be creative. My poor friends were bombarded with ridiculously silly videos. I am not sure they found them as funny as I did! Apart from making your own videos, there are many videos to watch that others have made that are ingenious and hilarious.

2. Tiktok can help you feel connected if you are lonely

Users are strongly encouraged to engage with other users, through “response” videos or by means of “duets” — users can duplicate videos and add themselves alongside.

3. Tiktok can nurture your creative side

4. Tiktok is a good distraction if you are overthinking and need a distraction

5. Tiktok can inspire and teach you how to create short videos

With all the special effects, music, and overlays available there are numerous ways to explore your creativity.

6. You can create memes

As already mentioned, memes are TikTok’s middle name, if it had one. When you’ve had a bad day or are just bored out of your wits, just scroll through the app and you’ll surely come across a ton of videos that would make you laugh your socks off.

Whether it’s another viral dance challenge, mind-blowing magic tricks, or pets dancing to “Mr. Sandman”, TikTok is fertile ground for hilarious memes.
