How A Healthy Sex Life Can Equate To A Healthy Life
Are you 18 or older? Cool, then we can talk all about sex and how awesome it is! So, we all know that sex FEELS good but can it actually DO our bodies good? Studies have indeed found that having sex can be of benefit to our health; literally, all the more and better reason to have it and to have it often!
Immune System Health
According to Sextopedia, there are many fantastic ways for a healthy mind and body, thanks to knocking boots! Having sex one or two times per week increases your immune system health by boosting antibody numbers, as studied by researchers at Wilkes University in Pennsylvania. Just imagine what having sex every night after you come home from work can do for you!
So what about when you’re in a slump and just not feeling “it”? The lowered desire for sex is not only bothersome but it’s also completely normal. Having more frequent sex makes intercourse feel better and it will also help to boost your libido and stamina! Many people, both men, and women believe the common misconception that when a woman has periodic sex, she must be loose “down there”. Truthfully, more frequent sex aides in vaginal elasticity, blood flow, and lubrication. When sex feels better, it’s only natural for you to want more.
Yet another of the many sex benefits for women is that it can help to enhance bladder control; when you have an orgasm, it strengthens your pelvic floor muscles, the same muscles that allow you to sustain a full bladder without any leakage. Incontinence affects a staggering 30% of women at some point in their lives but with the help of sex and the contractions from orgasms, these muscles help to ward off any unwanted wetness in your nether region. *Que Color Me Badd’s “I Wanna Sex You Up”*
Lowered Blood Pressure
Would you believe that lovemaking can actually lower your blood pressure? Well, ladies and gents, it is completely true! One study, in particular, went into such detail, it was found that only through sexual intercourse (not masturbation or other forms of sex) participants’ systolic blood pressure had been lowered. The systolic blood pressure is the first number measurement on a blood pressure test and just refers to the pressure of the blood in the arteries when the heart pumps, courtesy of WebMD.
Most Fun Way To Exercise
(Almost) everyone wants to lose weight to get and stay in shape and there are so many options; diet, exercise, pills, supplements, and even surgery! These options can be expensive and painful (especially for those of us that love tacos a little bit too much). But there’s more good news! Getting down and dirty has been shown to help both you and your partner burn approximately five calories per minute! By amping up your heart rate and the exertion of your body’s muscles, doing the horizontal mambo is a great way to feel and look better. No matter the position or technique, having sex usually uses every single muscle in the human body; that’s 657 muscles!
Now, heart attacks are not commonly worried about among men and women under the age of 40, but the risk factor is always there and surprise, surprise; sex helps to ward that off too! When you hit that home run, estrogen levels for women and testosterone levels for men are regulated and balanced out. This is important because when one or both of these hormones are too low, it can put you at a higher risk for heart disease and myocardial infarction (heart attack). Get this, fellas; in one study, men who rarely had sex were twice as likely to die from heart disease than those who participated in doing the deed more than twice a week.
7a. Pain Be Gone
Of all the sex benefits, this one is by far my favorite! Getting lucky can help to relieve pain and for someone like me, who has fibromyalgia, this is a serious Godsend! Aspirin and other pain alleviating meds, like Acetaminophen, can take a negative toll on your body after long-term use, whereas having an orgasm is completely natural, provides many benefits, and it all gets better after use for long durations.
7b. How Pain Be Gone
So how does this work? As reported by the US National Library of Medicine and National Institutes of Health, the hormone released during sexual stimulation, Oxytocin, has the effect of blocking pain and raising your pain threshold. Some pains that have been found to potentially be soothed by a little nookie are chronic back and leg pain, menstrual cramps, arthritic discomfort, and even headaches.
This one is for all the blokes out there! Harvard Health Publishing shows a link between habitual ejaculation and the lowered risk of prostate cancer. No matter the source of the orgasm, whether it be from sexual intercourse, masturbation, or even nocturnal emission, prostate cancer cases were decreased, proof for fooling around, the more, the merrier!
What else can feel almost as satisfying as sex? Sleep, of course! Getting in a good shag session deserves more kudos, as it doubles the opportunity for pleasure by aiding in post-coital sleep. After orgasming, the hormone Prolactin is released, which is accountable for the sensations of relaxation and sleepiness, in turn, making you more likely to fall asleep faster. I. Love. This.
Anxiety is the most common mental illness in America, affecting approximately 40 million adults 18 and older in the United States, informs the Anxiety and Depression Association of America. Getting it on with your loved one has been shown to help the body release all the “good feel” hormones that make your brain’s pleasure and reward system majorly amplified, all of which can lessen the effects of stress and anxiety and help lead to lasting self-esteem.
Who knew that getting down and dirty in the sheets could be so beneficial for our health? Of course, it’s important to always use a form of birth control to protect against unwanted pregnancy. The use of condoms is especially crucial when being sexually active with someone whose STI (Sexually Transmitted Infection) status is unknown. Above all, have fun in the sack while reaping the health benefits!
