It’s that time of year again! A chance to do better in the coming year than you did in the past.

Most people make New Year’s resolutions to improve their health. A 2019 New Years’ survey showed that about 71% of Americans‘ resolved to go on a diet or eat healthier.

If you’re trying to eat healthier, the first step is to cleanse your system of all the built-up junk food. But, how do you know which detox cleanse supplement to take?

We put together a list of our favorite detoxes and cleanses to help you figure out which one you should try. Keep reading to learn all about what to put into your body to purge it of all the built-up funk.

Juice Cleanse

For those who keep a meat and potatoes kind of diet, chances are your body is low on the vitamins and nutrients you would have gotten from fruits and vegetables. A good way to boost your nutrient intake while detoxing your digestive system is a juice cleanse.

For this cleanse, everything you consume is in the form of a liquid puree (or juice). You can buy fruit and vegetable juices, but most people like to puree their juices with a blender or juicer at home. When picking your ingredients, lean heavier on the vegetable side because fruits tend to have much higher sugar content.

These days, juice cleanses have become very popular and juice bars started popping up everywhere. But, keep in mind that this should only be a short term diet because all your calories come from the liquid juice. Ask your doctor about your juice cleanse plan before you begin.

Detox Cleanse Supplements and Herbs

If you do a quick online search, you can find an unlimited variety of detox supplements. They come in different forms like capsules, powders, and liquids, but which ones detox your body for real?

One of the supplements that may surprise you is algae! Yes, the same algae you see in your fish tank or a lake! Don’t eat the algae you find in the wild though because only lab cultivated spirulina and chlorella algae have these detox benefits.

Other common supplements are Full Spectrum Milk Thistle, charcoal or dandelion root, which are helpful for cleansing and detoxing your liver. These supplements work by targeting and eliminating toxins from your body in a natural, gentle way.

Apple Cider Vinegar Cleanse

Most of us have some apple cider vinegar lying around in the kitchen and grocery stores sell it for cheap. But did you know that you can use apple cider vinegar to cleanse and detox your body also?

Apple cider vinegar (ACV) has beneficial nutrients like acetic acid, folic acid, vitamins B1, B2 and B6, potassium, iron, and magnesium. As a bonus, apple cider vinegar has powerful antioxidants called polyphenols to help you fight signs of aging!

Try adding a shot of apple cider vinegar to your detox teas or make a delicious salad dressing. Get creative and find ways to introduce a little apple cider vinegar into your diet every day!

Liver Cleanse

Your liver is an important organ that often goes underappreciated. Its whole function is to filter out toxins from your blood. So, from time to time, you should clean out the filter and detox your liver!

To detox your liver swap out processed foods, hydrogenated oils, sugar, and alcohol for plenty of fresh vegetables, fruits, nuts, and seeds. Also begin taking supplements that contain liver detoxifying herbs like milk thistle, turmeric, and dandelion root. You can also buy prepared liver detox teas wherever you find diet supplements.

Liver detox plans can include herbal tea, capsules, or powders that you add to your meals. Any of these methods are as good as the others, so feel free to mix and match them to give you more variety in your diet. As with any major change in diet, consult your doctor to make sure your diet plan won’t cause more harm than good.

Detox Tea

The most common detox plan is a cleansing detox tea, brewed with hot water and imbibed right away. It’s a convenient way to get all your detoxifying benefits for the day in a cup or two of delicious hot tea!

Be sure to read the label and all the ingredients in the tea before you drink it. The last thing you want to do is take a detox tea that contains an ingredient that you’re allergic to!

Keep in mind that not all detox teas work. Some companies make cheap tea with little to no detoxifying ingredients. Check out online reviews of different detox teas or ask your friends and family for any recommendations to ensure the tea you choose will work for you!

Self-Care for Your Mind, Body, and Soul

Once you get on your way with your health journey, the next step is to care for your mind. Your mind, body, and soul are all connected, so self-care entails paying attention to all three aspects of yourself.

To that end, be nice to yourself! Dieting and making huge life changes isn’t easy and you should give yourself time to adjust to your new lifestyle.
