How to Make School Mornings Less Chaotic

Many children have taken time off school over the past year because they have coronavirus symptoms, or because they have been in contact with someone with the virus. This unexpected break from learning has created a time of uncertainty for many children and their parents.

After spending months at home, it is natural that kids will find it a little more difficult to slip back into the routine that they had before the lockdown. It takes time to get back into the habit of waking up in time to get to school each morning and to get dressed quickly. This can cause being back at school post lockdown to be a pretty stressful experience for everyone involved.

No parent wants to spend their mornings shouting at the kids to get up and get ready for school, or to be searching the house for a lost shoe. But, all too often, parents find themselves in this situation. If you are hoping to transform your mornings from chaotic to calm and organized, then why not give these suggestions a try?

Give Yourself a Headstart

When school mornings are stressful, it can put you in a bad mood for the entire day. But, mornings before school don’t always need to feel chaotic. Avoiding getting into this situation is a good idea, so why not give yourself a headstart each morning to beat the school morning panic? There are quite a few things that you can do to help ensure that everything is ready and waiting for the next day.

The first thing that you can check in advance is to look in your child’s book bag to see if the teacher has put any letters in there that you need to action. It is also helpful to know your child’s school timetable so that you can get their PE kit ready for them to take to school the following day.

Get the Kids Organized

Getting yourself organized to reduce the stress of school mornings is essential, but it is also important to get the kids involved and to help them to take some responsibility to be organized. Encouraging the kids to pack their school bag and get their backpacks for school ready is a great idea and will help kids to get into the habit of taking responsibility for getting ready each morning.

Keep School Essentials Separate

One of the most chaotic parts of the school day morning is trying to get the kids out of the house. The final push to get everyone ready for school can be a stressful part of the morning. To cut down on the stress, why not set up an area which has the children’s school shoes laid out, their coat and bag all conveniently hung up for them to grab and go with minimal hassle.

Putting these tips in place should help you to cut down on the school morning chaos and help to get your day off to a much calmer start from now on.
