How to Show You Care: 7 Ways to Give Love and Receive Love

In 2017, 50% of all Americans aged 18 and older were married and 18 million more Americans cohabitated together.

And 88% of Americans cited love as their primary reason to get married. But even if you love one another deeply, sometimes people in a relationship forget how to show you care.

Luckily, there are some easy ways to show genuine caring. This will help create longer-lasting, healthier relationships no matter if it’s your spouse, your mom or your child.

Keep reading to learn seven meaningful ways to show you care.

  1. One Way How to Show You Care is to Be There When They Need You

Feeling secure is a basic requirement in any relationship. But it’s especially necessary when someone is feeling upset, dealing with a failure or is experiencing hardship.

You don’t need to buy expensive items, you just need to be there. Try comforting them and reassuring them that everything will be okay. Offer them unconditional support.

Just knowing someone else has your back is often enough for a person to bounce back from a setback.

  1. Do Something Unexpected

While whisking someone off to Paris unexpectedly is nice, it’s not necessary. Instead, do the dishes when it’s their turn.

Pick up their favorite ice cream in the grocery store on the way home. Send them greeting cards even when it’s not a holiday or their birthday.

It’s the little unexpected ways to say, “I love you” that often carry the most meaning. Learning their love language can help you find the right way to do that.

  1. Respect Their Time and Boundaries

Everyone needs a little “me time”. It’s time to rest, rejuvenate, and just be yourself.

Everyone has obligations they must meet and it’s important to respect that. Don’t disturb someone when they need to focus.

Etiquette Rules

Show up when you say you’re going to be somewhere. If they tell you they need something, listen to them.

Observing basic etiquette shows you value them and their needs.

  1. Celebrate Their Successes

When your loved one achieves a goal, small or large, it’s time to celebrate with them. Acknowledge the hard work they put into it.

Admire their efforts and genuinely feel happy they’ve made progress. All of these actions will help keep your loved one’s morale high and help keep them motivated to reach even higher goals.

  1. Don’t Judge Them

No one likes to feel judged. It’s even worse when that judgment comes from someone you love and respect.

No one is ever going to behave exactly as you would except you. And people make mistakes.

Instead of focusing on their mistakes, focus on their positive qualities.

  1. Share Responsibilities

While you’re also pretty busy with life and work, it’s always nice when someone stops for a minute to lend you a helping hand. Showing you’re there to help ease their burden shows genuine caring.

It’s also more likely you’ll have the favor returned when you need a little extra help or support.

  1. Express Gratitude When They Do Something Kind for You

Saying “thank you” is still extremely important. It doesn’t matter who says it.

It’s nice to be recognized for doing something. Even when it’s expected.

When a loved one does something kind, acknowledging their behavior helps them feel seen and appreciated.
