Maybe you have recently purchased a home of your own and you are wondering what you can do to personalize your house and truly make it yours. Perhaps you are seeking ways that you can help make your home better for your mental health, but you’re not sure where to begin.

These suggestions can make it easier for you to create a home that can become a haven for your mental health, making it easier to decompress and relax after you’ve had a long or difficult day.

Keep Clutter To a Minimum

It can be easy to get overwhelmed, feel frustrated, and even get angry, sad, or upset when you are surrounded by clutter. Clutter can take the form of paper piles, old clothing you no longer wear taking up space in your closet, and items that don’t work or need to be fixed slowly reclaiming your garage.

There’s no one-size-fits-all approach to getting rid of clutter, so adopt a method that will work best for you. Perhaps you might choose to get rid of 27 items throughout your house every day, as suggested by Flylady. Or maybe you want to slowly go room by room and get rid of things you no longer need, use, or want. This is especially crucial for paper clutter, which can easily multiply once you have a small pile going.

Maintaining a clean home that is dust free and presentable can be time-consuming and this is where professional maids enter the picture. It feels like such a treat to live in a home that is fresh and neat, especially when someone else has done all the hard work.

In addition to your daily cleaning routine, make time to get rid of items you no longer need or want either by yourself or with the help of a professional cleaners, house cleaning redmond. This will stop the clutter from growing and make it easier to maintain your house, keeping it a mental health haven that you’ll love being in.

Put Up Artwork You Enjoy

If you want to make your house someplace calm and relaxing, consider putting up artwork that you find soothing or calming.

Having the right type of artwork present in your house can set the tone for your mental health and help you feel better. Soothing paintings or pictures that feature colors like blue and green, along with scenery that you find pretty, such as oceans, the sea, or a forest, can be particularly relaxing. Don’t be afraid to swap out different types of pictures as you come across them. You might even want to paint the walls in certain rooms different shades of blue to help encourage a restful state of mind, depending on your decorating plan.

Monitor Noise in Your Home

One key focal point of creating a relaxing home is to keep the noise level down. Obviously, this might be difficult if you have children or animals. You don’t necessarily need the home to be quiet, but rather keep the noise levels down when possible. You could tell your children to talk quietly after 7 in the evening, or even have relaxing sounds going, such as a sound bath.

For individuals who get easily frustrated or don’t like lots of different sounds, a home that is quieter, especially after a certain time, can be extremely relaxing.

Consider Adding Plants or Fish

Plants and fish can make a home even more personal and soothing to be in. Consider what your interests are and how much time you have to devote to taking care of them. For example, can you take care of one or more fish tanks? Can you budget for and manage the equipment needed such as filters and aquarium heaters? If you are a first time home buyer, maybe you want something that is easier to manage, such as a few houseplants.

It is helpful to start out slow and see if you can manage taking care of fish, plants, or both. You can always add more if you think you can manage them and don’t need extra help.

Creating a home that is a mental health haven doesn’t need to be difficult if you know what steps to take. Make sure you cut down on your clutter and that you are constantly working to keep it at a minimum. Consider adding artwork you find relaxing, and find different ways to reduce the noise in your home so everything can be peaceful. Finally, think about the benefits that fish and plants offer, and see if you are up for having them in your home.

These tips and suggestions can help you and others feel a sense of calm whenever you come home.
