More self discipline please! I hear it all the time from clients that are fed up with their lack of determination and persistence. Here are a few tips on how to increase your chances of sticking to your goals.
The more we manage to do the activities that we put off doing, the more we train our minds to obey, overcome unconscious resistance and strengthen our psychological power that we can do what we have put off for so long.
Try a few of these:
1)There is housework that needs to be done and you keep avoiding it. Get up, right now, (come back and read this later) and go do those dishes or ironing that’s piling up. Do it.
Don’t allow laziness to overcome you – no, no, no. You will feel so good once you have done it and got it out the way. Doing tasks develops your will power.
2) You come home and sit in front of the TV, too tired to get showered first. Force yourself to get off that couch and go get clean..then you can relax in peace…
3) Drink too many cups of tea or coffee? Make yourself drink two cups a day instead of three for a week. Prove to yourself that you can do it..all the while you are flexing your ‘willpower muscle’..it will be growing every time you DO rather than WAIT.
4) Do you need to exercise but instead you sit around doing nothing? I have problems with this one myself but I have started doing little extra things – like taking the stairs instead of the lift..I am working my way up to fitting in a whole half hour of exercise in each day..it makes me feel good to know I am more active than before and inspires me to keep doing more.
5) Hate what you do for a living? Take the first step today and change your career, start your own business or go back to school.
Every time you DO something, you strengthen your inner resolve and boost yourself mentally. The more you do, the more you will want to do, your life will gain momentum.
Break your usual patterns on a daily basis…identify your natural inclinations and do the opposite. You will love yourself for it.
