The ups and downs of life

It pays to accept the fact that life is full of ups and downs. It’s highly unlikely to live a life full of highs unless perhaps you are a Tibetan monk who meditates for days at a time. Even then, the human experience involves ups and downs to varying degree. Suffering is a part of human existence unfortunately.

Instead of resistance, learn to ride the waves and tune in to the natural ebb and flow of life’s rhythm. Problems arise when we get too sucked into the lows and lose perspective. Learning to take life’s punches on the chin with the realization that life swings in round-abouts. It can help you to survive the stressful times. Change is inevitable and this certainly works in our favour when we are experiencing a downer.

There was a day last week when I felt completely overwhelmed. Little things were getting to me and I felt on edge. Emotionally, I felt at the end of my tether and life seemed awful to me. The next day, I had gained more perspective and felt far happier and in control of my emotions. I still struggle to ride the bumps of life but trying to see the bigger picture can lessen the degree of emotional strain if we remember to keep it in mind!
