TThere are many ways that people go about picking that ideal career path. For some, it’s about the salary potential, and for others it’s about job availability, or perhaps what their skills and talents would best be used for. Then there are those who base their ideal career on how it will make them feel as a person, meaning they focus on what they will take away emotionally and spiritually from that job.

If you’re trying to find a career that is rewarding and will allow you to give back to people and make a difference in the world, then here are three paths that you may want to look at closer.

Nurse Practitioner

As a nurse practitioner, you will have the option to work with a variety of patients addressing their various health issues and concerns, and helping to guide them through their treatment. Obviously, this is a rewarding career to get into, but you can take it one step further and choose to focus on family care. In fact, here in the United States more than 60% of licensed nurse practitioners decide that family care is what they want to specialize in.

As for the benefits of being a nurse practitioner, there are many, but one stands out in particular; there are currently 21 states, plus the District of Columbia, that have approved “full practice” for licensed nurse practitioners. Full practice means you can assess, diagnose, and then prescribe medications independently to your patients. You can start to build a real bond with your patients, setting them on the path to wellness and making a positive difference in their lives.

School Teacher

When it comes to rewarding careers that allow you to give back to society, a career as a school teacher simply has to be on the list. In this role, you will not only be teaching kids various topics and subjects, but you have the incredible opportunity to also impart life lessons into their various studies. These are lessons they will take with them throughout their life, again giving you the ability to have a positive impact on people.

Whether you choose to work at the elementary, secondary, or post-secondary level, each one will offer a rewarding experience like no other.

Child and Family Social Worker

Here’s a career that can certainly give you the opportunity to challenge yourself, give back, and be extremely rewarding, but at the same time, this one carries with it a lot of stress that some can find is a bit too much. As a social worker, you will be helping people access housing, food, childcare, mental health assistance, and more. It’s common to deal with people who have been neglected or abused, so it can weigh quite heavily on your mind.

Choosing a Career That You Can Feel Good About

If you’ve decided that you don’t want just any old career, rather you want one that allows you to make a difference in the world, then these three paths can certainly offer just that.
