So, how are you feeling today? Good, bad, indifferent?
My next question is – WHY are you feeling this way? If you’re feeling good then make sure you get more of whatever it is that’s contributing to your happy state.
If you’re feeling bad, sad, mad or one of those negative unwanted emotions, try to figure out what is causing the feeling.
Can you do anything about it right now? If you can – go do it. Don’t procrastinate. Take positive action towards fixing the problem and once you have done this, ‘shelve’ it. By this I mean – put it the back burner and stop worrying about it. Focus on what you CAN do something about and put aside those things that you cannot immediately act on. I come across many clients who worry incessantly about things that they cannot change or do anything about in the present moment. Learning to mentally put aside those things that you can’t immediately action is a great skill to learn – almost like ‘mental filing’ – do now tray, do later tray.
Okay, once you’ve done whatever you can, actioned the parts were possible and mentally ‘shelved’ those worries that cannot be actioned right away it’s time for a tea break! Or a coffee break…
While you’re taking your break – think about all the things that are working well for you in life. Perhaps you have wonderful children and/or pets. Maybe your partner is loving and supportive or your health is very good at the moment. There are always good things in life but you have to tune in to them. It could be something minor like the fact that the sun is shining or a stranger let you into the traffic with a smile this morning. Whatever it is – there’s a lot to be said about thinking about all that you are appreciative of. It promotes long term optimism so keep it up.
Stay in the present moment and be as mindful as possible. Focusing on now – on what you can see, smell, hear, touch and taste fills your senses and gives your mind less time to worry senselessly. Savour every moment of life instead of living on your head and worrying about the past or the future.
Make a choice to have a good day. Tell yourself loudly that you’re not going to let anyone or anything get you down today. Put a smile on your face and make a conscious decision to make the most of the day. Don’t let life happen to you…make life the way you want it to be – you can do this by watching your thoughts and your attitudes. Today, right now – wherever you are, your thoughts can create heaven or hell in the exact same space.
Here’s to a happy, brilliant, fun and productive day for you!
