What is your mental wellbeing score?

Would you like to know what your mental wellbeing score? Sapien Labs is a scientific nonprofit org that is aimed at evolving the way mental health and wellbeing is measured, discussed, and ultimately treated.

They have developed a comprehensive assessment tool based on a scientific study and coding of over 100 different mental health assessments, and addressed a number of challenges that currently exist in the field such as the inconsistency of mental health assessment tools and the negative bias of mental health tools, disregarding mental abilities and assets that contribute to wellbeing to provide a comprehensive and standardized measure of mental wellbeing. You can read more about it here

The assessment is free for all, completely anonymous, and provides people with a score as to where they stand on a scale from critical / at-risk through enduring / managing to ultimately succeeding / thriving, as well as personalised recommendations for managing one’s health and wellbeing.

Beyond the benefit to the individual, there is a public interest benefit to the project as the data has been made available to all mental health researchers via a scientific consortium, and this year should become the largest mental health field study in the world.

What Is Mental Wellbeing And What Does The MHQ Tell You?

Mental wellbeing is the ability to handle life and its various stresses and challenges. The MHQ is therefore a snapshot of your self-perception along various dimensions of mental function that determine your mental wellbeing. It is not a measure of happiness or life satisfaction. You could, for example, be experiencing very difficult or sad circumstances in your life but nonetheless have all the capabilities to cope as best as one could, and therefore have a high level of mental wellbeing.

Life is challenging and you are managing but consider opportunities for enhancing your mental health.

A positive MHQ indicates that you are operating without challenges beyond those normally expected in life. However, to fully embrace your potential you could still consider reviewing different aspects of your life to identify any adjustments that you could make to further enhance your mental health. General lifestyle factors that have a positive impact on mental health include regular exercise, social engagement, mindfulness, limiting your exposure to stress, eating a healthy diet and cognitive or intellectual stimulation and learning. If you are currently affected by quarantine measures due to Coronavirus, we suggest video conferencing with friends and family and seeking out online resources such as exercise videos, mindfulness apps, puzzles and e-books.
