You are stronger than you realise

Most of us underestimate our ability to cope. Time and time again, I have witnessed clients tell me that they would never be able to cope but when they actually had to get on with it, they found the strength from somewhere. This is why I believe we are all stronger than we realise. When we think ahead, we worry about all that can go wrong and it’s pure mental torture. Yet, when the shit does hit the fan, we don’t have time to over analyse, we just have to get on with it.

People tell me I am brave with all the health issues I have had to deal with but the truth is, it has nothing to do with bravery. It has to do with sinking or swimming. When life gets tough and we have to prove our mettle, I would hazard a guess that 95% of us manage to pull it out the bag, We somehow manage to get through even if it is hard and feels awful.

Remind yourself of all the difficult things you have had to get through so far in your life. No doubt, there has been heart break and rejection and failure on some level. You’re still here…you survived!

Giveyyourself regular credit for your resilience and for your individual strengths. It also helps to repeat positive affrimations to yourself. One of my faves is: No matter what comes my way, I will find a way to deal with it.

Just this simple sentence helps me to feel safer and trust myself. Give it a go.

Anxiety comes from overestimating the threat (fear of rejection, failure etc) and underestimating our ability to cope. When we fear that we won’t cope, we tend to avoid what we fear. Do the opposite – confront and approach your fear. You will gain confidence and learn that you are stronger than you realise.
